We live in such a busy world. Everywhere we go we hear about either being more, doing more, or buying more. With everyone in the family going to school or working, “busy” is the new normal. Self-care takes a back seat, socializing with others is limited at best, and compassion becomes an extravagance rather than a need.
Benefits of Compassion
Compassion has a beneficial impact on our health and well-being. There are several advantages to being compassionate not just for ourselves but for others as well:
Benefits of Compassion for ourselves

For Others
· It’s a contribution to others when we show compassion.
· We let them know they are not alone.
· Other people reap the rewards of feeling related, understood, and full of hope.
· Others who are equally kind and compassionate will draw near to us.
· We become role models for others on how to treat themselves.
· We become role models for others on how to improve their relationships.
· We create a ripple of compassion, that positively affects many people.
How Becoming More Compassionate Affects Our Lives
Compassion is a fresh approach to creating change in many areas of our lives. We reap the benefits and rewards when we are compassionate to ourselves.
Self-Compassion teaches us how to be kind and sensitive to our own needs when we fail, as opposed to being critical of ourselves. We all make mistakes; sometimes we don’t achieve our objective; and at other times, the behavior of others affects us negatively.
We forget, make mistakes, lose our temper, and overreact. We are human beings. We can be nice and caring by recognizing the fundamental truth that we are human.
Being kind to ourselves is a more effective use of resources. Consider how much time and effort it takes to feed a bad attitude as a result of an error. Instead, we might take the opportunity to self-soothe.
Self-soothing is said to have a variety of advantages. Rather than dwelling on our errors, we may move ahead more quickly. We can learn and develop while continuing to move forward, which is the true meaning of life.
More importantly, when we show ourselves compassion, we train others to do the same. If we beat ourselves up, we are basically giving others permission to do the same. When we show ourselves compassion, we model how we expect others to treat us, as well.
